The Women of Mad Men

Filed under: Mad Men, the biz — petertypingfaster @ 11:52 pm

And for once I’m not talking about Christina Hendricks when I say that.

Nope, this time I’m talking about the women behind the scenes. The writers.

The Wall Street Journal has a great article up about all the women behind the scenes of AMC’s hit show. And there are a lot of them.

Seven of the nine members of the writing team are women. Women directed five of the 13 episodes in the third season. The writers, led by the show’s creator Matthew Weiner, are drawing on their experiences and perspectives to create the show’s heady mix: a world where the men are in control and the women are more complex than they seem, or than the male characters realize.

It’s a great read, and in an industry where there are so few women, I think that Mad Men deserves a tip of the cap for not being afraid to hire the right people for the job, regardless of what’s between their legs.

Keep on trucking ladies. You’re all doing an incredible job.
