Friday Link Roundup: October 30, 2009

Filed under: Friday Link Roundup — petertypingfaster @ 9:43 am

Just one link today, because it’s a doozy.

TV Tropes is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction. Pretty much any bit of storytelling jujitsu that’s ever been used can be found here. It’s a lot of fun to just click around it for a while to see how they describe everything.

And if that doesn’t interest you, it’s worth checking it out for the list of aborted story arcs in television alone. Ever wonder what Lost was going to do with Libby’s character? Well now you don’t have to!

Great way to waste a few hours if you’re interested in writing.

  1. TV Tropes bothers me in the sense that the “tricks of the trade” often get lost in a massive sea of fan wank. Reading that site usually just frustrates me for the failed potential.

  2. Ugh… That site is crack. I clicked the link, and ended up spending close to two hours there.

But on the plus side, I’m now trying to find ways to insert a “Xanatos Gambit” into all of my scripts.
