This Is Why James Cameron Can Do Whatever He Wants

Filed under: Avatar — petertypingfaster @ 7:00 am

Avatar is going to net News Corp $350 to $400 million dollars. Talk about a return on investment!

The amount represents News Corp’s about 40 percent share of as much as $1 billion that the film is expected to earn for its Twentieth Century Fox and “Avatar” investors, the people told the agency.

News Corp’s share amounts to almost half of its average quarterly operating profit in the past year, according to the agency.

It’s utterly insane that one film is responsible for 50% of News Corps quarterly operating profit. Utterly insane. Hate Cameron and Avatar all you want, doesn’t change the fact that every single person in this business would trade their left kidney for that kind of (financial) success.

What kind of success are we talking about? Avatar‘s North American box office rose to $730 million, while its worldwide gross rose to $2.6 billion.

Talk about laughing all the way to the bank.

  1. Cameron’s next movie?

A bouncing barbarian made of tennis balls and shoe horns that conquers the galaxy with his lazer-vision and trusty macaroni duck side kick.

    SOLD!
